I am new to most issues concerning DVD players and their operations. I just purchased an Insignia (model # NS-DRVCR) DVD-VCR Recorder Player. My PC is a Compaq Presario 5320US with a CD-RW Drive, DVD-ROM Drive and I have successfully recorded JPEGs on a CD-R off of the CD-RW Drive and they play alright on the DVD player. Some of the JPEGs I cannot get to play and I get a message "cannot open file" I do wonder exactly why that is? My main question is why I cannot get the MPEGs to play after being recorded on the CD-R. Is there any free software available off the WEB that may help me be able to record these files into a format that my home DVD player can recognize and play? I now use Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.1 to make my CD-Rs to play on the home DVD player. Thank you for any help that you can give me on this subject.

the dvd player does not play mpeg files directly, it will play VCD that contain files that used to be mpeg1 before being authored ( turned into ) VCD files

you need some softare ( free...see links on this site ) that will take your mpegs and make VCD files, that you can burn on CD to create the 'Video CD' or SVCD

VCD use mpg files at 352*240 resolution

    SVCD uses ( 480*480) i think

is the links on the left top under what is ?

    DVD , SVCD, VCD

    for complete explanations
