TMPGEnc fails to convert avi: black screen in mpg file?

Ok, first of all, i have converted a few things before, so I am not totally new at this.

I was converting a MOV to mpg for burning to vcd (have done this as well).

The mov had protected audio, so I had to convert mov to avi, and capture audio seperatly.
I cold not convert the mov t avi with TMPENC as it always locks up at the exact same spot 3 seconds into the mov. So I used bink and smacker to convert to avi, and total recorder to record the video.

Both audio and video (avi) look good when played seperatly.

when I try to convert the avi to mpg1 (vcd) I get no picture. The result is the same with or without the audio (wav).

The file will open, but the video field is all black.

What am I doing wrong?

Win98, celery366 200mb ram, tmpenc 2.5, 3dfx video, soundblaster live...

try decompressing with vdub decompressor ..then convert the decompressed file.sometimes this fixes picture problems
so get
avi audio decompressor ver 1.0 and have a try

I am sorry, I do not understand your comment.
(I have never used VD).
