TIA for any assistance, the folks at Nero are not responding to my tech support questions and I'm getting tired of waiting.

My issue: I use Nero to burn DVD's. I have a Sony DRU 830A burner, and am using Nero 7 enhanced. I have used this same combo for a few years, but just replace the burner last week as the previous one needed to be retired. I burn .vob files to dvd -R discs and have had no issues till the new burner was installed. Now, when I burn these files, the completed DVD will not play in the rom drive of my computer and is being identified as RAW format. But the same dvd WILL play in a stand alone dvd player just fine. The disc is finalized, but will not play in my computer. I have lastest firmware installed for the Sony burner.

Can someone help me figure out what setting I need to change to make these otherwise playable dvd's work on my computer?

    Hello-
I'm still unable to burn a playable DVD; one that is that will play in my computers dvd player. I had nero check after a burn, and I got a ton of read error messages, that I cannot decipher except that hardware was in error. I ran a drive diagnostic and this is the log:

    [04/07/2007 11:48:47 PM] 1 log - 702 MB Blank CD-R
    [04/07/2007 11:48:47 PM] 1 log - Media ID: 97.26.66
    [04/07/2007 11:48:47 PM] 1 log - Testing drive: SONY DVD RW DRU-830A (SS23)

    [04/07/2007 11:49:43 PM] 1 log - CD Write complete
    [04/07/2007 11:49:43 PM] 1 log - Begining data verification
    [04/07/2007 11:50:15 PM] 1 log - Data verification complete

I also check that DMA is enabled on both primary and secondary IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

I uninstalled Nero and installed Clone DVD, and again....a beautifully burned DVD that will play in my stand alone player but NOT on my computer. Commercially produced dvd's will play in my computer.

When I open up My Computer, and look at the properties of the dvd (burned by Nero and burned by DVD Clone), it states that the format is RAW.

Please!! Someone help me figure this out

That may just be a reading problem. A PITA, but if it doesn't effect the DVD itself and it plays properly on a standalone player, it's just a reading problem internal to the computer.

How to fix? Not so simple. But it is not uncommon for a computer to not be able to read a disc that it has produced. There are quite a few threads on our site about that particular problem. But I don't recall any simple solution.

I suspect it may be a registry problem, but that's all guesswork.

Try this. Go into Device Manager, find the Sony, right click-> Uninstall, then reboot. You might also try Nero InfoTool and look for some clues. Under Drive-> Modes look for TAO, SAO, and DAO (non RAW).

Why aren't you asking SONY for support? This looks like it isn't Nero's problem.

I downloaded an avi files and converted it to mpeg before authored it to dvd using TMPGenc and TMPG DVD author. the file's size became 3,997MB which I thought would still fit in a DVD-5.

But when I tried to burn it with Nero, it said: 'not enough free space on the devices to accomodate this compilation. Do you want Recode to attempt to reduce the compression ratio by selecting lower target size?'
every time I clicked 'yes' it'd end up with 'failed saving file'.
I tried to burn it with other burner, they all rejected the file.

I've never had this kind of problem before. TMPG and Nero never failed any of my file before.
Does anybody know why is this happen? And how to fix it?

It would help to see what the nero log contained for an actual dvd burn , and what brand of media you are currently experiencing the issue with to help with the diagnosis .

Its why I keep my older dvd burner around , just incase the new one chucks itself on the older backups .

Seems all too strange that many users are experiencing the same issues , so the questions would have to be

1: Nero , as in Oem (came with original drive) vs retail ?
2: Media , same brand as before , or other ?
3: Its a new drive with the issue , but did you uninstalled nero correctly ? , Did you use the nero clean out utility .
4: What other programs are installed that can burn to dvd , list them .
5: List any utility installed , supplied with unit .

6: Have you replaced the ata cable ?
7: Dose the unit share the ata cable ?
8: Check those jumpers are correct .
    9: Info regarding psu .

The last thing is to go updating the firmware , until those listed above are confirmed .

Poorly constructed psu's can contribute to many of these issues , and the prefered method is to take the unit to another pc , to confirm the units behaviour is not an isolated experience .

'not enough free space on the devices to accomodate this compilation. Do you want Recode to attempt to reduce the compression ratio by selecting lower target size?

Make sure nero's re-encode compliancy setting is disabled , which would throw up a similar issue because nero wants to re-encode it by default .

If the files are already dvd compliant , use imgburn instead of nero for burning .
