ive been using winavi for years with no problems.but since 3 days ago, everytime i try to convert a vob to avi or any other format i get the error message:"cant decode the file, maybe the file is broken".this is driving me nuts because winavi is by far the fastest and most simple video converter ive ever used.evidently something is wrong with my vob codec.can someone please help me?i'm not real educated about these things,so dumb down your answer as much as possible, thanks

    1) Use something else, like AutoGK or avi.net (for DVD/VOB to AVI)
    2) Call WinAVI customer support (as WinAVI is a commercial procuct, they should provide some end user support)

One of two things is at play.

    1. The VOBs are corrupt, in which case you need to throw them out and acquire new, working versions

    or

    2. You installed something on your system which has caused problems. The most likely culprit would be a codec pack. Given that you are happy to use what is possibly the worst video converter ever created, and the publishers of this piece of trash recommend the use of codec packs to make their travesty of a program work at all, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that you have installed one. If you have not, then go back to point one for your answer.

A simple test - open the VOBs in g-spot (the latest version) to see if they a) open, and b) if they do, if you have the right codecs to play them
