  1. Hello! Does anyone know if the program HDTVtoMPEG2 will convert HD DVD (movie files) to MPEG2? For reauthoring on a DVD+/-R ?

I want to backup my new HD DVDs, but until blanks are cheaper, I'd be okay with just backing them up on regular blank DVD media.

    Thanks!

No, the files are in a different format.

And that's not "backing up", that's just copying. A backup copy is true to the source. What is the point of taking a HD copy of a movie and converting it down to SD as a "backup"? It defeats the whole point of buying HD.

There is a whole forum here dedicated to DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-Ray.

Of course you can get a HDVD burner and $15-$20 discs, if you can find them. Stick with SDVD for now and save yourself many headaches and bucks.

I'm guessing that the original poster has invented his own abbreviation and just assumes that the entire world knows what it means. Unfortunately, that happens at the time here.

HD-DVD specs support this. I have an example of such a disc and it plays fine.

  8. I took SDVD to mean Standard DVD. Yeah, he kind of invented it.

Does anyone know Mr Cooley's (the author) email address or can anyone suggest why, irrespective of the content of the ts file, all I ever get is:

"HDVDtoMPEG2 has stopped working....close the program"
