Hi-
I have downloaded a avi file that has english subs in it.
I have found my own danish subs for it and want to use them.
So this is what I have done:
1. encoded the file with divXtoDVD
2. Used PGCDemux and added the danish sup file to the output folder for later use in muxman.
I thought that it would split it up so I could see the english sub file delete it, and replace it with my own danish sup file, but in the PGCDemux output folder there wasn't any.
As my 3rd step I just wanted to use muxman and add the danish sub, wich I suppose isn't any problem, what I'm affraid of is that the english subs will be shown when playing the DVD while allso showing the danish subs - that the english subs are incorpurated in some way?
Is my concern anything to worry about or will I just be able to switch between Eng. and danish subs?
Any help and answers is as allways very much eppreciatet
Cheers!
DB

The DVD has English subs, but when you demux there's no SUP file for them? So the English subs may be "burned" or "embedded" into the video? When you play the vobs by themselves (not as part of the DVD), do you see the English subs? If so, you're out of luck. Does the AVI also have the English subs "burned in"? If you're not sure, open the AVI in VDubMod. Scroll around. If you see subs, they're "burned" into the video.
Is my concern anything to worry about...
I'd say so. -
Hmm..
I went ahead and made the DVD with my subs in it, and as I feared both the danish and the english subs shows when playing it.
And I can't turn them off. (except the once I added ofcourse)
So for similar future problems plz give some info on how to awoid this. What to do, to rip out the incorpurated subs in the avi file.
Cheers!

Make sure the subs aren't already burned into the video. If they're already burned into the source AVI, then just forget about the whole thing. If they weren't already burned into the AVI, but when converting to DVD you ignorantly burned them into the MPEG-2 video, then go back and start over again, and do it right this time.
If the source AVI has them burned into the video, then about all you can do at this point is to cover them up with black (or whatever color you like) and make the selectable Danish subs to play over a black rectangle in the video. Not really an ideal solution. I think you can set up the subs to do that in SubtitleCreator, but I've never done it myself. Or you can make a black rectangle to cover up the existing subs like this:

I had some Japanese VCDs with Chinese subs burnt in, and I wanted to convert to DVD and add English.
Open text subs (eg, SRT) in Subtitle Creator.
Set Background color as black, uncheck transparent.
Choose other colors, fonts, position.
Export as SUP.
You can also edit the colors in a SUP file using DVDSubedit.
Author with the SUP file.
Unlike having a fixed black box, the black background is only there and no larger than necessary.
