  1. I cannot get tmpenc to open a axvid file. The file plays fine in windows media player. I went into the enviromental settings and changed direct show to 2 and 3 respectively. It is the same on both of my computers. I do not remember what i did on my last install to make this work.

But do you know what? I haven't install XviD codec, I have installed only ffdshow and WMP also plays all XviD files I have.
How to check? Load the file in GSpot and it will tell you. Or try to open the file in VDubMod - it will tell you also.

Yes, but WMP = dshow, so if it can play it back, then TMPGEnc should be able to load it via dshow. By default it will require a VfW decoder though (ffdshow can handle this if enabled).

TMPGEnc's dshow input isn't the best though. For instance in the past I found that ffdshow only worked if I limited the output colourspace to RGB.

  5. Any other suggestions? I get the same results on my other computer. It is a fresh install too. I do not know what to do. Maybe i need to drop TPMGenc.

You could use AVISynth to frameserve. Should result in faster encoding to if you use AVISynth for resizing, etc. instead of TMPGEnc.
