    Hi,
As subject says, it won't start, giving no error. in VirtualDubmod i can play it correctly.
i have K-Lite codec pack installed. Gspot shows as follows:

    Container
    DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI
    OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
    Interleave: 1 vid frame (40 ms), preload=522
    Audio frames: Split across interleaves
    Video: 566 MB (85.37%)
    Audio: 90.2 MB (13.61%)
    AVI Overhead: 6.78 MB (1.02%)
    UserData
    [JUNK] VirtualDub
    [JUNK] AC3 build 16341/Release
    [USER] DivX 503b830p
    Audio
    Codec: 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3
    Video
    Codec: DX50, Name: Divx5.05

    NVOP,PVOP,BVOP,PB are On (50% P, 49% B)
    GMC,QPEL are off.
when i press VGS, i have some red marks(discontinuity?), including the 1st square.

so, do i have a corrupted file or is it another reason, because i saw some threads
about "packed bitstream", ang thougt maybe this is the reason, but i'm not sure.

    -----
    thanks

Packed bitstream mostl cause errors for standalone DVD/AVI players, not WMP.
Your problem is likely found in this sentence:
i have K-Lite codec pack installed.
That said, try playing it with VLC or Media Player Classic

    Thanks Matt,
I'm sorry, my subject title might have mislead to understand that my WMP won't play
"packed bitstream" files at all(?!), but this is not the case. (it says "file" not "files")
i have a problem to play only this file. i've played lots of DivX5 "packed bitstream"
files with WMP, and my DVD player as well, with no problems. that is why i showed the
details of Gspot properties, maybe someone else would see any problems.
i've scanned the file for errors with VirtualDubMod, with no results.

    thx

Ok, i found the problem, although it arises another question about WMP.
the file plays fine with WMP as long as DirectVobSub is not loaded. it seems that one
of its defintions is not working with WMP, but does work with MPC.
my film is 352x268 in WxH size, and DirectVobSub > General > Resolution was defined to double resolution if less than 384x288. changing it to Original Resolution solved my problem. WMP now plays the file with the subtitles.
well, question is why does MPC honour DirectVobSub definition while WMP doesn't?
P.S: i don't know if this question relates to this forum or another, but if there are no replies i'll try shifting it maybe to Subtitle forum(?)
