    Hello,

I'm trying to do some research on outputting aac 5.1 audio from the ps3 fat (I have a 40gb fat model). I am a little confused. I can output optical dd 5.1 and dts 5.1 and aac (without anything after aac on the aac line - ie it doesn't say 2.0 or 5.1 just aac).

Does the aac and dd and dts output via bitstream?

This is outputting via fiber optic not hdmi. Thanks.

    Edit -

I've scoured my ps3 and I do have "lpcm" output options. However for fiber optic they are only 2ch output. I want 5 ch output.

Is lpcm the same as bitstream?

I did see in the ps3 setting for hdmi audio output that hdmi audio can output 5.1 lpcm audio (and higher).

I read on another forum that the ps3 slim can do bitstream and the fat can't. however since I can do 2 channel lpcm on fiber optic on my ps3 fat does that mean that the ps3 fat is limited to 2 ch output in lpcm for fiber optic?

edit 2 - I've done some more research and it seems according to another forum post elsewhere that the spdif format is only designed to handle aac 2.0. It apparently can handle aac5.1 for bandwidth but isn't in the format.

It seems that 5.1 aac is only possible via hdmi.

    Is that correct?
