    Hello,

I got into the habit of ripping DVDs manually via windows.. just copy and paste it to the hard drive and then decrypt it later with another tool, but I'm getting problems with some DVDs.. The ones that usually have a non-linear VOB structure i.e: the ones have the bonus features for example starting at VTS_01, instead of the main movie being there. I've used almost every tool to no avail. Please help me. Thank you for any replies!

When I decrypt them the program (all programs I've tried) will skip a chapter or three.. it's like the movie plays but you'll come to a part where the movie just stops and starts looking like how it looks when you try to play an encrypted movie. It's always the same chapter/chapters in every movie. I don't think it is that the source DVD wich I don't have anymore in most cases is scratched or dirty as windows would have gave a cyclic redundancy error at the copy stage. It's always these DVDs that put bonus features or trailers in the first VOBs, I copy them to dual layer so I don't know what might happen if I were to try to encode them or shrink them but I won't bother cause I like 100% video quality. I thought more people would be familiar with this problem, I've google ALOT.

Try running it through fixvts. I know what kind of DVD's you are talking about as I rip a lot of those also using ripit4me...but I never encountered the problem you are talking about.

Yea, I've tried FixVTS, didn't work, maybe if I do some tweaking in the preferences? Also tried Ripit4me I believe it asks for the disc and can't be just a folder on your hd. I am going to try to convert the problematic VOB files to MPEG and then convert it back to VOB and hope it works. I know there is video inside the VOBs cause I can play the movie using this program called DDR (DiVXDVDRipper) but this program can't rip copyrighted DVDs, It's ok for watching movies on the HD but I need to burn them already cause I'm really low on space.

I assume that you know that copying and pasting in Windows probably isn't the best way to get the info off encrypted DVDs and you should rip direct from disc with a ripper like DVDDecrypter ?

Smartripper is another older ripper which can take input from your hard drive and might be worth a shot.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Yup, I blame myself. It's just in the beginning I never had any problems. I could totally use a program that literally re-encodes the dvd into like AVI or something (assuming that you can use a 'lossless' setting), then I'd just re-convert to DVD format. Some examples of the problematic DVDs are: Femme Fatale, Once Upon A Time In America, Ripley's Game, Beetlejuice, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (special features), Gsford Park (special features) JFK Director's Cut (menu), Taxi Driver (menu), all Warner Independant movies have problems with the menu.

Even if you re-convert you would still lose info. What you would be doing is converting mpeg2-to-mpeg2 anyway, as lossless is only on the original source.

If only dvddecrypter could allow opening from 'folder in hard-drive' then who knows it might work, but as of now it only allows opening an iso or DVD disc wich is useless because Winiso won't do copy-righted DVDs and no other progy has been able to rip them for me.

what about using folder2iso or IMGToool Classic to create an ISO, then mount the ISO with DaemonTools, then rip with dvddecrypter ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

You can always create an iso and mount on a virtual drive. But you suggested using dvddecrypter, which is a part of ripit4me, which you said you already tried?

Yea, actually DVD Decrypter won't decrypt an ISO just burn it, so I am going to mount the ISO and then open the 'DVD' with DVD Decrypter and then back to the hard drive.

If you're going to use dvddecrypter, use ripit4me(which uses dvddecrypter) and do the whole process again.
