    I am in the process of capturing all my home VHS tapes to .mpg with a 15000 bit rate.

    Once I'm done capturing everything (calculated in the region of 160GB total) I would like to author the DVD's in the following way;

    1. Add Menu's with music
    2. Add titles between scenes (eg. as seen in many action films such as the Bourne Identity/Matrix, I would like to have a black screen with text being typed out spelling out the title of the next scene/location/etc. and maybe a typing sound if possible)

    Which authoring software is best for my needs here (money no object) however it can't be so complex that it'll take me years to figure out how to author one DVD.

    And how can I accomplish point 2?

    I would also like to add that I'd rather make my own menu's as opposed to using someone elses limiting template...

    Point two is probably easiest done in an editor or effects package. WAX2 can do it for free, or if you have an editor that can do text overlays, use that instead. Also, this is usually done at the edit stage, not the authoring stage.

    Authoring, based on the vague needs you have described, could be done by most packages. DLP, DVD Architect, Encore, DVDWS, GuiForDVDAuthor are all capable of doing what you need. The trick is finding one that works the way you do, which is why they have trial versions.
