    Hello everyone .. im completely new at these things so i hope you can help in some way , i dont own a cam corder or what every those things are called today , so i dont have any hardwear at all ... i just got back from holiday and while i was there me and my friends made some videos , now im home and i want to watch them on my normal basic pc .. i have been sent the videos but cant get them to play ... infact they dont do anything .. they are VTS files or is it IFO .. anyhelp would br great

    Are they on a DVD ? They are part of a DVD structure.

    Media Player Classic will play them, as will VLC.

    right now they are just on my friends laptop .. they arent on a dvd as yet .. they are on her laptop which plays them .. but i cant play them ...

    The software I listed in previous post will play them from your HDD or a DVD.

    but is there anyway to play VTS / IFO files on my pc which is a besic xp home computer ??

    Not without installing a player than can play mpeg-2 video. Windows does not do this out of the box. You need to install either a software DVD player such as PowerDVD, or use one of the players I mentioned. Media Player Classic is a good choice because it is a single file - not need to install, just download, unzip and run.

    i have powerdvd on the computer but it didnt work unless there was something wrong with teh file when it was sent .. but thanks for the help any way .. thansk a lot

    If you are being sent parts of a DVD you might have problems playing it. You should get .ifo, .bup and .vob files. The minimum you need to get the video is the .VOB files, which you will have to open in one of the previously mentioned programs. Even PowerDVD should be able to open and play a VOB file.
