I cant find a cheap external dvd rom. The only thing I can find is a CD Burner/DVD Rom drive for like 80 bucks at Best Buy...
Anyone know of anything cheaper? is there just a dvd rom drive without the burner?

doesn't exsist..
cd burn with DVD read only, came in many PCs / laptops some cheaper laptops are still that way
AFAIK: an external DVD read only doesn't exist, 99.99% of the market isn't interested
keep your eyes on the adv's, i see $49 single layers quit often
yes they will play double layer dvd movies -
Buy a DVD-Rom and then get an external case and there you go.....Less than 60.00 for both...

plain dvd-rom drives are getting rare these days. I would guess that this is both due to the lack of demand and the fact the Combo (DVD-Rom/CD-Burner) and DVD-Burners are already at such a low price point that no profit could be made from DVD-ROM only drives.
You could buy an internal drive and an external 5.25" enclosure. My guess is that it would still cost you around $50.00 with Shipping and/or tax for both the enclosure (USB 2.0) and a drive.
At this time there is no advantage to having a DVD-ROM only drive. I would recommend checking www.newegg.com they have much better prices that BB and have excellent customer service.
If you really want a -ROM only external, I think buying the internal+enclosure may be your only option. Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think. -
DVD-Burner=30.00

Price of dvdrom is about $5.00 less when you compare it to the price of a dvd burner. DVD burners are so inexpensive now days. You might as well buy a DVD burner w/a external enclosure as this has already been suggested by other members.
Here's my suggestion:
Aluminum External Enclosure: $20.99

LG H42N DVD burner: $29.99

What is the difference between a External dock and internal CD Burner/DVD-Rom versus an external one ? ? ?
IS one faster than the other?
Also, please someone tell me how easy it is to combine the two to make it work. -
And also, I have a lap top, so I can still use the external dock, I know its a dumb question but I'm just making sure...

For an external drive, you just need an USB<-> IDE converter and a n external powersupply. Both come together for around $20.
As it's standard USB 2.0, you should of course connect it to an USB 2.0 port (USB 1.1 will work, but is slow).
It will work with a laptop. -
www.newegg.com
External enclosure - simple assembly = $23
IDE DVD Burner (don't look for a Combo - waste of time) = $30-$35
Shipping = $10
$68 or less, and you can burn with it.;/ l ,[____], Its a Jeep thing,
