I have downloaded several bittorrent AVI files that play perfectly on my computer, but won't play on my DVD player. (I burnt the DVDs with Nero). The DVD player (LG DV276) is AVI compatible, and indeed other AVIs, which weren't downloaded via bittorrent, will play on it. I have also tried creating DVDs using Sonic DigitalMedia LE v7 software, but when I try to add the AVI file I get the message "Could not make a thumbnail. Make sure you have the appropriate decoder installed. -47010". What am I missing?

use gspot & media info, compare the new files codec & resolution with old files that play

either they are not true avi OR they are encodes that are not compatible with your player

is your player hi-res Dvix with h264 ?

Thanks. According to GSpot, "the codec(s) are installed". It identifies the codec on the file as DivX 5.2.1 (DrDivX106). According to my player's handbook, it will play codecs with the format "DIVX5.xx" Is that the same thing? No, the player's not hi-res Dvix with h264.

There are other factors that make a Divx or Xvid playable on a set top player. You could try running one through a program like AVI ReComp and that should make them compatible with most Divx players.

    And welcome to our forums.

Welcome to the forums shadowcat. We need more info.
    1) Did you burn your AVIs to data discs (no conversion) or have Nero convert them to DVD format for burning?
    2) Nero isn't a good tool for converting AVI to DVD. ConvertXToDVD isn't free, but it seems to work pretty well for newbies.
    3) If you burned AVIs to data discs, there are various options in Divx that might be problematic for your player. These include:
    GMC
    QPel (Quarter pixel)
    Packed bitstream
    Resolutions greater than 720x576
Video bit rates greater than 2000 Kbps.
GSpot will help you to see if you have any of these settings in your AVIs.

I know nothing about Sonic DigitalMedia, so I have no idea what that error message means.
