When I try to play a MVK file it plays in 2 little squares in the top of the player and the screens seem to be the bottom left or right squares of the screen, what does this mean?

Have you tried installing/reinstalling the latest mkv codec?

It's the oddest thing i tried all the codecs and nothing, Mkv files wouldn't play for anything in media player clasic so on a whim i downloaded VLC player and they play perfectly.

Why do they play right in one player but not the other?

VLC uses its own (internal) codecs, not the system's, so that implies something isn't set correctly with the system codecs. Did you already have ffdshow (and/or Haali's splitter) installed before Baldrick suggested the latest versions?

Yes, but I was asking if you already had them installed before Baldrick suggested trying the latest versions of each. What player(s) were you using to play MKVs that had the problem?
