Some help please. I love my Benq1655 burner. Sometimes the burner doesnt want to open. It probably needs repair. Does anyone know a place where I can send it for repair. Thanks

  2. That's a fairly common problem (tray open/close issues) for Benq's of the 1620/40/50/55 families. I just retired a 1620 with a tray issue. You probably don't want to hear this but it in all likelyhood it would be cheaper to just buy a new drive.

Thanks I really dont want to buy another because i like the benq. I haven't seen anything better. I bought the lite-on LH-20A1H-185, it's ok, but not like the benq. I rather fix it if I can. Thanks

As onesickpup mentioned you'll be better off in buying a new dvd burner. Unfortunately it's rare to find a BENQ 1640 & 1655 drive in the USA. If you're somewhere in Europe you can buy a rebadged one. I don't believe there's any type of shop that would fix the drive tray. The LITEON 18A1P drive is great to use and you can crossflash it to the BENQ 1800 firmware. The BENQ 1800 & LH-18A1P are the same drive. LITEON bought out the BENQ optical storage division last year.

The drive in my Lite-On DVD recorder will open iots drawer only intermittantly. Seems to be a family trait.

In another thread I saw on CDFreaks site a user disassembled a drive and then cleaned and lubricated the drive rails resulting in it working fine but only for about another 6 months when the user decided to replace the drive. There's quite a long thread at the Benq forum at CDFreaks site which might be useful in helping find another 1655. You might check NewEgg who has had them intermittently but only for an hour or so before selling out of stock.
