BENQ DW1670 issues

I just installed a new BENQ DW1670 burner and I am having some problems. I am using Verbatim 16x DVD+R media and I noticed that even when the burning speed it set at 8x it sometimes falls to a lower speed. Also during verification the read speed is slow and usually lower than 8x. I am using the latest 1.03 firmware and the burner is running at Ultra DMA Mode 4. Any suggestions?

What software are you using to burn those verbatim discs at 8x spd? IMGBURN is the best to use for dvd/cd burning. Also your BENQ 1670 is a rebadged LITEON drive. You could also try replacing your IDE cable and buy a 80 wire ide cable.
