I desperately need help working this out! I've got VOB files from DVD's using DVD Decrypter. I can get the full video to AVI, but I want a preset file size and I want the file to be edited before encoding. In other words, I just want a VOB to be edited/cut, and encoded to a certain file size.
I asked him what he does and he said this:
Now this is what my friend says the order of programs is to do this, but he "doesn't have any time to go into detail."I rip with DVD Decrypter then i use DGIndex to turn the vob into a d2v file then i use Gordian Knot to make my file a avs file then i bring it into VirtualDubMod and encode
DVD Decrypter I know is used to copy the VOBs to my PC1. DVD Decrypter
2. DGIndex
3. GordianKnot
4. VirtualDubMod
DGIndex creates the d2v file
He said he uses Gordian Knot to create the AVS (which I know how to do)
And I'm guessing he uses VDubMod to encode
The thing is I don't know which program to use to edit the files to get only the parts I want and which one to use to get the filesize I want!
I have all these programs and can download and install any more I may need, but I'd like to stick with these! Please help![/quote]

There are many ways to do all this. Why not use AutoGK and you should be able to do most all of this in a single program.
If you need to split the converted AVI type file to two data DVDs or CDs, you can do that after the conversion with a program like VirtualDub.
Preset file sizes are largely dependent on encoder settings. Two pass VBR should give you a set size with good quality and small filesize, depending on your settings. You need to study the codec settings. You didn't mention the AVI type codec you are using for the end product.
There is a lot more to all this. But welcome to our forums. -
I was using XviD. By the way, I would like to do it in this order:
1. Decrypt files from DVD
2. Somehow edit commercials out from video
3. Encode with XviD and a preset overall AVI video filesize
What programs would I use and how? -
Editing is best done in the earlier stages, especially if you are removing commercials. Xvid is one of the worst formats to edit, as you can't cut accurately except on key frames, which are usually 300 frames apart on a average Xvid. Not good for frame accurate editing.
If I had a DVD file that I needed to remove commercials from, I would convert the DVD to one large MPEG-2 file with VOB2MPG, which will have no quality loss, and then edit with a MPEG editor program like VideoReDo or MPEG-VCR. Then I would do my Xvid conversions.
If your DVD has commercials, it's not to likely to be encrypted. Commercial DVDs are encrypted.
In most cases, without editing needed, I would still suggest AutoGK or easier, FairUse Wizard, if you want to end up with a Xvid. -
To make this as easy as possible for me, is there any program out there that will allow me to directly edit a vob file and save it as a new vob file?
-
I had that before but can you save the edited vobs as a new vob file?
-
You can with the plus version.
He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect. -
How can I get the my files to come out at the same size using Gordian Knot? They are about the same length (22 mins.) I'd like all of them to come out at 175MB. How can I do that?
