I'm converting a feature length film from a quicktime file to a PSP (standard NOT H.264) file but I keep getting file sizes like 17mb after the conversion which can't be accurate for an hour and 27 minute film.

Too much information in your post. Make it more vague. Don't include the apps you used to try to convert with.

I'm trying to convert a full length Quicktime movie created from Final Cut Pro a basic (non H.264) file for the PSP. The file I came out with was 17mb which is almost impossible. The standard size I get from almost any conversion to iPod or PSP h.264 video is at least 300mb. I tried to view this file in QT player and only got sound but no image. I had everything at standard settings except I used 4:3 versus 16:9 for video. I read somewhere the video will not be seen but file size is still and issue. Something's not right.

Did you render all your video in the timeline in FCP?
Double check that all source video is intact and not missing/offline?
What happens if you
export the FCP timeline to a Quicktime movie first,
then bounce that file through iSquint(free) or
Visualhub(not free)?
Does the exported QT movie have video?
Does the QT movie bounced through iSquint/Vh have video?"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
