  1. I came across these at MacUpdate.com the other day. Anyone familiar with them?

This DOES NOT INCLUDE any decompressor code, but it DELEGATES to Perian.compoent to decompress mp4v media data. In other word, this compoent overrides default Apple MPEG-4 decoder compoent. (Universal Binary)

    I tried the AVC1 decoder. It comes with a preference pane for setting post processing.

    I couldn't tell the difference from QT's AVC/H264 decoder so I removed the component... But I also never tried very hard.

    I've started using mp4vEncoder. It's very good quality and its integration with Quicktime gives certain options compared to ffmpegX. It is very slow, though, on my Mac Pro, even distributing across four cores. There is no rate indicator, but it would be not much faster than real time, I don't think. I'll do some better guestimates.
    Go off and rule the universe from beyond the grave. Or check into a psycho ward, whichever comes first, eh?
