    maybe this will work

copy the video_ts to your PC

rename the vob files to mpeg

    example vts_1-01.vob to vts_1_01.mpeg

they should play with your video player program, and you can edit them ( if needed ) with your favorite mpeg editor

check them with video inspector to find the aspect ratio, bitrate, frame rate, and resolution, youill want that info when you author the DVD

now load those files into your authoring program, convertX or other choice , check your bitrate, and FPS, aspect settings, and click the button to author/convert the video, when its done burn to DVD with your favorite burning program

What is missing? If it's only some BUP file, you can just copy the corresponding .IFO file, and rename the copy to .BUP

i always thought it was the other way

the bup is the backup for IFO of the same number if its corrupted or the disc is damaged and the ifo can't be read, isn't the DVD player supposed to automatically read the bup ( if its there ) if it can't read the IFO

he did say mni DVD from camcorder, isn't that the same file system as a DVD recorder with an RM folder which contains the edit tags,
its been my situation where if that is corrupted, there is NO backup and the DVD doesn't play

Well, it works both ways, as a
x.bup=x.ifo, which implies that x.ifo=x.bup. If you have one (but lack the other) it can always be fixed with simple file copy and rename.

yes, but does a DVD have to have both copies of those files in order to be playable

does the player check one against the other, I thought the idea was 'either OR'

that if the info was bad the player looked for the BUP file and would play the disc as long as one of each number was correct

but we are getting away from the OP's problem

The ifo and bup files are identical except for the extension, so if either is missing it can be replaced with a copy of the other.

However unless the OP posts a listing of the content, there is no way to know what is missing.

As an experiment, I deleted all the bup files in a VIDEO_TS set and burned it. Played fine.
The idea of a backup is to halve the chance of failure, not double it.

As for the OP, if he has all the VOBs, they can be converted back to ordinary MPEGs and reauthored.

If he has all the VOBs he can use IFOEdit to recreate the ifo and bup files.
