I used FAVC for the first time last week. I successfully converted 720p.hdtv.x264 1.7gb .mkv video file to DVD format choosing 'quality' in the optimized presets, was very pleased with the result.

What I was planning on doing was to convert a single video to a DVD+RW and the rewriting over it with a new one each week. Anyway.. FAVC doesn't want to work for me on my second single .mkv video file that I'd like to convert. It is exactly the same specifications 720p.hdtv.x264 1.7gb.

The first single file conversion worked fine

    VIDEO_TS folder:
    VIDEO_TS (.vob)
    VIDEO_TS ifo file
    VIDEO_TS.bup
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0 ifo file
    VTS_01_1 (.vob)
    VTS_01_2 (.vob)
    VTS_01_3 (.vob)

And the one that won't only contains:

    VIDEO_TS (.vob)
    VTS_01_1 (.vob)
    VTS_01_2 (.vob)
    VTS_01_3 (.vob)

I do get [liba52 @ 02241000]Error decoding frame during the Video Analysis stage.

I have retried several times and even redone the first one just to check and it doesn't give the Error decoding frame message on the first one.

I don't understand, the 2 video files are no different from one another.

    I could cry.

The conversion is there, I can view parts of it by opening VTS_01_1, VTS_01_2, VTS_01_3 in a media player. What can be done to get this into a playable DVD? Preferably with a background/menu.

    Thank you in advance.

Right, as I am not familiar with this software what are the steps I need to take to link them together and not to alter the quality of the conversion?

You just load them into the same title in TDA (one after the other), and remove the chapter points that TDA inserts at the joins, and it should play back as one continous video.

It seems pretty straight forward but I'd like to ensure I'm not touching or changing the conversion at all. If you could quickly run through the motions that would be brilliant.

No, it wont touch your video. If you have TDA 1 (or 2?) it even can't touch the video, as it has no video encoding capabilities. TDA3 can encode video, but still shouldn't touch it if the source material is DVD compliant, like yours is.

If you have all the VOBs then you can create new IFO and BUP files with IFOEdit. Much simpler and quicker

Good good. I am trialing version 3.

I add the 3 "clips" (VTS_01_1, VTS_01_2, VTS_01_3) into a single track but they act like chapters, so when I click 'next chapter' it flicks through the 3 clips. I don't want that, just 5 min jumps.

Sorry to be such a pain, I'm a newbie.

Remove all auto generated chapter points, add your own. IIRC, TDA has an option to insert chapter points every n minutes.
As guns1inger says, IFOEdit can fix this for you too, but doesn't create a menu for you, and can look somewhat daunting to the inexperienced.

I'm not sure which button to click - I only have TDA 1.6, and not where I am right now - maybe someone with TDA3 can help out?

Alright, well thanks for the help guys. At least I can get my conversion on DVD now. That's the main thing.

Just to let you know FAVC worked fully with all files (playable DVD). When I first wanted to convert my video file I chose not to use ImgBurn because I didn't have any disks at the time. I chose to use ImgBurn this time and it burnt to disk and all worked fine.

I just tried to convert another video, same specifications again, now this time FAVC did not generate a full DVD again.

Does anyone have any explanation for this? Quite frustrating as it takes around 3-4 hours to convert so it's not something I can quickly retry.
