I often use SUPER to convert .avi or mpeg for my video iPod - which even has a 5.5 iPod gen setting. However, I often get a message saying 'An ERROR has occured.. ' (in red text) which then lists way too many ways why this could be - and shuts off the converting. Quite often you can leave it converting and it turns out fine. But mostly the file will not convert, and even if it does it will not recognise it in iTunes (Incorrect file format..).
I wonder if anyone else has this or can recommend good settings for converting downloaded vid files. I often tick the 'direct show' button because it tells me too, thought I'm not sure despite the pop up text bar, how this helps or if I should.

I'd like to add I use it convert .bin/.cue files to play in my DivX standalone DVD player - which also does the 'An ERROR has occured' message on occasion. I'm using the latest version.

    Thanks!

If you have BIN/CUE files, which are used for VCD or SVCD, why are you converting them to play in your standalone DVD player? If your player supports Divx, then it should support VCD and SVCD and you should just burn the BIN/CUE files as those types of discs. Converting to Divx only makes the quality worse.

Sorry, I don't know about the answer to your problem. I just wanted to point out that maybe you don't know that you shouldn't really need to convert VCD and SVCD files to play in your standalone player.

I don't want to burn them as VCD or SVCD as I convert them into .avi in order to play, and to fit, as many as possible videos onto 1 dvd disc for viewing on my standalone player.
Thanks anyway, can anyone else help or recommend advice regarding my post?

  4. Extract the mpeg files from the bin image (VCDEasy, Isobuster, VCDGear) and burn it as data together with the avi files. It will play.

If you have a stand-alone player that can play DivX/Xvid, chances are it'll also recognize MPEG-1/MPEG-2 files with the extension .mpg (maybe .mpeg). Using the above-mentioned programs (I usually just use VCDGear, myself), you can extract MPEG files from the .dat files within the VCDs or SVCDs (or in this case, the .bin/.cue disc images, which VCDGear can also extract the MPEGs from), write those to disc, and your player will probably be able to read them.

(Of course, once you have the .mpg files, you can also convert/compress them further to .avi, if you want.)

Thanks for advice on that. Does anyone else get these error messages regularly on SUPER with iPod video/bin/cue - or is it just me then?
