A friend of mine copied 26 VCR tapes onto DVDs using a Panasonic DVD/VCR combo. The DVDs all play on his machine and his DVD player. He decided he would like two copies to send to his brothers and because he has no means of copying DVDs he asked me to do so. I duly presented him with 52 copies made on my PC and using Nero 7 and none of them play on either his combo or his DVD player. His brothers have the same complaint... the DVDs do not play on their machines.

Because so many copies were involved I copied the originals onto my hard-drive using Nero's '.nrg' image format which is their version of 'ISO.' Then I simply burned two copies using each .nrg image in succession. I never checked whether they played or not because due to the amount of copies being made there simply was not enough time.

I notice on the disks that there are two folders... one is the regular VIDEO_TS folder which contains all the .vob, .bup, and .ifo files and the other is a VIDEO_RM folder which contains a .bup, .dat and a .ifo file.

Is there perhaps a different method of compression or codec involved in making disks on a combo or have I done something wrong in Nero?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Regards.

Disc images are typically not compressed. The software just reads the disc "as data" and creates an identical image on your HD. To burn, you would just open Nero, select file open, select the image you want to burn, set any options needed in the burn dialog (such as finalize disc), and burn.

Do you have any of the "bad" discs to experiment with?

Thank you Krispy... I tried a different method of copying in which I left out the VIDEO_RM folder and all was well.
