I am a Godzilla fan. I may have posted this question before but I thought I'd give it another crack.

I have seen on ebay REGION 3 dvds with Japanese only soundtracks. Now I'm pretty sure my lieton dvd recorder can play them back - I think it can be made region free (1107 hc1).

BUT I want one with an english sound track as well. I'd prefer one with a 5.1 dd remix as well (DTS might be asking too much).

Would those imports be too risky? I mean they say they aren't bootlegs but what are the chances they are for real? I think the selling prices ranged from 5-10 bucks and about 8 for shipping. Would that be a way to get it??

I do have the video cassette version so I could dub the audio myself but then I'd lose half the reason for getting a dvd print of it - the audio. But I should be getting a better picture than a worn out vhs copy. I have been looking on places like amazons unbox download service for it but I haven't found '84 yet. Anyone have any suggestions??

Ok I found a place that seems to have it:

    http://www4.fnac.com/shelf/article.aspx?PRID=1548303&SID=6ebaf128-4cb4-bf83-3a4f-6e800...=20&To=0&Ra=-3

    Contenu :
    Les 2 films :
    - The Return of Godzilla
    - Godzilla contre Space Godzilla

Fiche détaillée "The Return of Godzilla - Godzilla contre Space Godzilla"
Titre original The Return of Godzilla - Godzilla Vs Space Godzilla
    Réalisation Koji Hashimoto, Kensho Yamashita
    Langue 1 japonais
    Langue 2 anglais
    Sous-titrage français

    altavista - babel fish translation:

Contents: 2 films: - The Return of Godzilla - Godzilla counters Space Godzilla Detailed card "The Return of Godzilla - Godzilla counters Space Godzilla" Titrates original The Return of Godzilla - Godzilla Vs Space Godzilla Réalisation Koji Hashimoto, Kensho Yamashita Langue 1 Japanese Langue 2 English French Sous-titrage

It says it has a Japanese and English language track. I assume it means french subtitiles.

The only problem is I don't read French so I don't know how to go about ordering from this site. Does it do international shipping? How can I find that out? I have a mastercard and I have paypal but I don't know if it would accept either one.

    Suggestions??

(Yes I know this will be pal and region 2 I believe but I can convert - thats not a problem)

    Actually I used altavista babel.

It was weird I got through the whole registration process and even got to the payment stage - fortunately they used a pretty universal checkout system.

BUT IT WOULDN'T ACCEPT MY MASTERCARD!!!!!!

I got an email - in french of course - that said the order had been canceled because the funds wouldn't work.

How can I get a temporary international mastercard or visa that will work on a french website?????????

Well I ordered it. I got the return of godzilla/space godzilla dvd at a place called zoomici.com. It was in english (mostly you know the rough translations). But it took my mastercard and I got a confirmation email.

I think it said two weeks since the estimated arrival was 3/1/07. So this will be interesting. Assuming this is the same region 2 dvd I saw at the other website it will be the japanese version of Godzilla 1985 with an english dubbed track as well as a japanese track. Hopefully this will be a clean transfer. I was reading about those region 3 hong kong releases - it was a MONO release! Ouch I'd hate to have paid for shipping on one of those only to find out it wasn't even stereo

This should be interesting. This is actually my second international purchase. I bought a roxette cd from cd universe quite a few years ago that was an import from sweden (or was it UK???) - Anyway this will be fun. I'll post my experience. And fortunately the payment page was entirely in english so that made me feel better.

He's providing useful information. If anyone else is looking to get this movie they could check out this thread and see how Yoda went through to get it and if its worth it.

Also someone who might know that this movie will soon be released here, it could help out the next person so they won't have to order it from another country.

To:chesterfield:If you don't like it then don't bother reading this thread simple as that. :P

To:yoda313 I didn't know you were a fan of Godzilla. In 2005 at the Honolulu International Film Festival they showed on the big screen "GODZILLA FINAL WARS". It was awesome to see the Godzilla on the big screen. Last time I saw one of those on a big theater screen was when I was a little kid in the 70's. Nice to see that there are Godzilla fans still out there!

Didn't you know GODZILLA 2000 was in the theaters??? I saw it on the big screen. That was a lot of fun too.

Now I like the original godzillas a lot but I also like the sony version in 98. I know its not like the originals but I love the special effects

I just recently bought Godzilla TOKYO SOS and was amazed at the amount of CGI they threw into it. However it was still a guy in a suit so they kept a lot of the charm but were pushing the technology too.

@chesterfield - my main reason for posting this was for help trying to figure out to buy a region 2 dvd on a foreign website. I finally was able to get to an english language website that had it. I was hoping to get some information on how to pay for international transactions but stumbled on zoomici that seemed to work.

yoda313 I don't recall GODZILLA 2000 playing on the big screen here in Honolulu. I did see the SONY Pictures GODZILLA that starred Matthew Broderick. I didn't care for it but the special effects were okay.

@budz - yep Godzilla 2000 was playing here in the states for sure. I think it was Godzilla Millenium in the japanese release.

It was fun even though I saw it late with only 20 or 30 people in the audience. The fun part was we all cheered when the TOHO logo popped up!!

When I saw "GODZILLA FINAL WARS" at the film festival the theater was packed every seat was taken. Everyone clapped when Godzilla's son, "MINYA" appeared in the movie!
