I have a sony PC120e camcorder with an analog input. I'm going to use that beautiful analog input to convert many vhs-tapes to dvd.
I have two choices here : I can either record the vhs to miniDV first (SP mode of course), and then capture the miniDV-tape to the computer. Or, I can use the camcorder just as an analog->digital converter and capture straight from a connected vcr to the computer.
Are there any quality loss when I record the vhs to minidv-tape first? My initial thought was no, because dv is digital = it will be an exact copy. Am I right? Or are there any kind of compression involved here, or anything else that will reduce the quality?
