I ripped that a while back and don't remember what I did so I Stuck my copy in the DVD player and I see subtitles during the spanish scenes. They look like they are part of the video so I don't know why you don't have them.
If my memory serves at the time when I copied that I was using SmartRipper and was exparimenting with using stream processing to rip strait to a file.
Good Luck -
Yes you have to choose the items in the stream processing to get the subtitles and everything else to be ripped.
-
You need to choose the french subtitles IIRC. BTW - please lose the caps.
-
The subtitles in traffic are not subtitles as such. They are actually part of the movie. All you have to do is rip the movie and the subtitles will be there. I actually ripped this movie last week so I can vouch for this.
-
shorsfall, maybe we have different copies or something. not to sound rude, but after ripping it a (DOZEN) times i think they would have shown up by now. I dont know ....maybe im a complete moron, but i cant get them to show up.
-
ok, lets go over this again."i have tried it every way i can come up with" stream processing, french, spanish, english, other english, none, ect. not one has produced the text. unless you have had the same problem, than you wouldn't know how to fix it, now would you. ripped "STARGATE" w/ alien subs, and it came out fine. but really guy's thanks for the help. ill get the text sooner or later. and please remenber to speak newbe english. IIRC.BTW>??? thanks

If I understand the problem correctly, then "This Is Spinal Tap" has another similar problem.
With subtitles off, there are still a few instances in the film where they flash the name of the place you're looking at, or entroducing someone by flashing their name on the screen. But, it's not encoded on the video, it's an actual subtitle...
How this works? I don't know, and I don't have a solution. When you rip it with anything, it does not display this subtitling. Whatever you may think, TWEATTY isn't crazy. It really is a wierd thing where it does not display this subtitle unless you play it with a standalone or software DVD player...
In the Traffic movie, it sounds like it makes it pretty unwatchable, unless you know spanish...

In the Matrix DVD, there's a feature called "Follow the white rabbit". During the movie some special effects get a rabbit like that and when I click on it with my remote controle I get some information about the fx.
I suppose they made the movie sort of a menu there. Maybe that's the way they do it in trafic too.
Either way, I thought there's software that can make subtitles. So you could write your own subs. I don't know if it's a big job to do... -
in traffic, the subtitles are NOT hard coded. that means, they are not part of the video, even though they should be. you need to treat those english subtitles during spanish scenes as if they were regular subtitles. i used the virtualdub/vobsub method, but you can also try flaskmpeg.
-
Just curious, do these subtitles have a name? There must be some sort of flag applied to it where it tells standalone or software players to turn on subtitles for those few seconds, then turn them off again...
That would be a valuable feature to add to a subtitle ripper, to only grab subtitles with this "flag"... (hint hint hint)! -
There has to be 2 different versions of this movie because my copy shows subtitles during the spanish scenes and I diddn't do anything special to enable this.
-
the movies you're talking about are multiangle movies.
you need some app to recorrect the vob pointers, etc. and deal with the angle aspect.
the app i use is IfoEdit...http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Forum/index.php4
you guys should try using this...may solve your problems.
goodluck...
