Hello...I have a video file that came with subs and I want to include the subs into the video without hardcoding them. The subs that came with the video are a sub file and an index file. I downloaded subtosup to convert to the proper format that SVCD2DVD could handle....which is sup. When I open SubtoSup to load the sub, the index file appears and I click it. It takes about one second to convert the sub to a sup file...because when I look at the file in the video folder the program has created a sup file. My question is do I have to do anything else with this sup file. Does the conversion from sub to sub take only a second? I feel as if I am doing something wrong here.

No, it's not text. SUP and SUB/IDX are graphical subs. However they are quite the same except for headers and some extra padding in the SUB/IDX. That's why it's fast to convert. No RLE operation.
Cheers
