  1. Hello...I have a video file that came with subs and I want to include the subs into the video without hardcoding them. The subs that came with the video are a sub file and an index file. I downloaded subtosup to convert to the proper format that SVCD2DVD could handle....which is sup. When I open SubtoSup to load the sub, the index file appears and I click it. It takes about one second to convert the sub to a sup file...because when I look at the file in the video folder the program has created a sup file. My question is do I have to do anything else with this sup file. Does the conversion from sub to sub take only a second? I feel as if I am doing something wrong here.

You can also use SubtitleCreator for that if you want.

  5. Yah coversion of subtitle formats is quick, mainly because it's just text.

No, it's not text. SUP and SUB/IDX are graphical subs. However they are quite the same except for headers and some extra padding in the SUB/IDX. That's why it's fast to convert. No RLE operation.
