I keep reading that the NIC limits overclocking. I'm thinking about buying an Asus P5L-VM or P5B-VM but I read reviews about overclocking stopping at 320 because of the NIC port.
Can someone explain why a NIC port would effect overclocking? Would dsiabling the NIC port negate the problem?

May have something to do with the bus the NIC is on. If it feeds directly into the MCH rather than piped through the PCI bus (and thus the ICH) than it could affect your memory multi.

Overclocking can affect the PCI bus speed if the motherboard does not support bus locking, thus any components attached to the PCI bus will limit the overclock. One possibility.
