What is the basic setup needed in order to have a control center where I can watch a single DVD in multiple rooms in my home? I guess kind of like closed-circuit television.

Basically, what options do I have and how would I set it up?

No idea where to post this question, thanks!

There are a number of options

    1. Multi-zone amplifiers allow you to split the feed into separate zones, or to multiple zones, or allow you to have the DVD going to one while a CD plays in another

    2. Wireless video repeaters. basically just broadcast to all of them and tune your TVs accordingly.

    3. PC with media extender units over WiFi.

    4. Custom build solutions.

How much money do you want to spend ?

Money is really a question of the best bang for the buck.

I'd like to be able to set it up at my main television and then have the other tv's have the ability to access it only if they want to. I'd like to spend less than 500 for 3 or 4 tv's, if that's even possible.

Wireless repeaters would be the cheapest and easiest to set up, however reception quality can vary depending on distance and structural features between the units. It might be worth getting a hold of one pair, and testing it in all locations that you want to watch from to see if it suits. If it does, get the extra units.

Do you have extra coax in the walls? A central distribution point?

Can you run new cables easily?

For cables, you could distribute RF coax (low quality) or composite or S-Video plus audio.

You will need a distribution amplifier to split the outputs like this
