I know what a layer break is. However, I would like to know what would happen if you have the 'Remove layer break' option in DVD Shrink improperly set--I.E. when burning to a single-layer DVDR, you uncheck the checkbox before ripping and burning, and when burning to DVDRDL, you check the checkbox before ripping and burning. If unchecked for a single-layer DVDR, would the burning software look for the second layer, but not find it, encounter an error causing an incomplete burn, or would that just cause an unnecessary pause during playback on a stand-alone DVD player? If checked for a DVDRDL, would the burning software malfunction without specific commands on where the layer break should appear, or would the burning software decide where to place a layer break? I prefer DVD Shrink Version 3.2, the latest, because whether backing up to single layer or DL, I can make modified copies of my DVDs with or without menus, copyright warnings, coming attractions, etc. I have two Yamaha NTSC/Pal 5-disc DVD changers which during multiple DVD-VIDEO playback will only switch from Disc one to Disc 2 and so on if the DVDs are reauthered without there menus. I am thinking of purchasing two DVDRDL burners--with one set to Region 1, and the other one set to Region 2 so I do not have to be stuck with the five- time limit.

Maybe I'm missing something, but you shouldn't need a region code set on your burners just for ripping/burning. Mine have always just been left at the default (whatever that is) and work fine without any issues. You can set/change/remove region coding for your copies within DVD Shrink.

When I use the factory default RPC2 firmware, DVD Shrink gives me errors when attempting to rip a non-USA DVD. So I have to change it to RPC1 firmware downloaded from the net for success.
