I got a new video card (ATI Radeon 9550) a few months back and after installing it, its software and a new audio codec I suddenly found that all the .avi files I tried to play in any media player were so dark the screen was nearly black.
I solved the problem in Windows Media Player by turning off video acceleration but I noticed a slight decrease in quality and I am unable to enter full screen mode. I also have Zoom Player and Media Player Classic and I was unable to solve the problem in those media players. The problem also appears in Zoom player when I try to play .mkv files. If it helps I have the ffdshow codec pack.
I'd like to be able to enter full screen mode and if possible get rid of this dark video problem altogether.
    Thanks in advance.

  2. You should be able to adjust the graphics card's overlay settings to get the video playing properly.

From Control Panel double click on Display, go to the Settings tab, press Advanced. From there it varies depending on the card and drivers. Somewhere in there you will find the Overlay controls for brightness, contrast, color, and hue.

Also be sure to get the latest certified drivers for the video card.
