These references have been very helpful. I wanted to get some opinions before I make another purchase as I think I may have hit on the solution to my problem. I am converting VHS tapes recording them to a Panasonic DMR-EH55 HD then to a DVD+RW disc using the hightest quality possible on the EH55 (XP). The plan was do the editing on my PC (Phillips DVD8801 RW Drive). I started with Nero Ultra 7 (now enhanced) which seemed to import the files but then after all the editing was completed, it became unstable, started crashing and wouldn not burn the project. I then did a trial of Ulead and it failed to import the VOBs. I read a few threads on here with content about the EH55 and I tried TMPGENC's DVD Author 2.0; worked like a charm from import to edit to burn. I then took the burned files and imported them to Nero and Ulead just to see if it would work; flawless!. After reading DVD Author 2.0's specs they say that this arrangement may not be possible given the conditions. Before I invest further I'd like to get some ideas on this type of application as I am sure many others out there with VHS tapes are thinking about the same.

Supposedly Panasonic writes to a format that is universally read by PC DVD drives but when you take a brand new DVD out of the box and the EH55 needs to format it, thats a bit suspect. I noticed Author 3.0 is becoming available and I will wait for that release since it covers more file formats that I use. Any opinions/recommendations are appreciated. Thanks J
