Hey everyone, hopefully this is in the right forum
Quick question. I've been getting a bunch of these DVDs of Dance Shows/Concerts and such that were generally transfered from Video Tapes and other stuff.

I was curious as to what the best practice would be for taking the video from these DVDs (the VOB files) and editing them, cleaning them up slightly, fixing sync issues, in some cases frame rate conversion, and then back to DVD?

Should I just be taking the VOB files and converting them to, say, a DV-Stream? Would this cause a loss in quality? Some people out there tell me there is a way to edit the VOBs without losing any quality, which to me sounds rather suspect, but if there is a way I'd love to know how.

Logically I would presume that taking a compressed format, moving it to uncompressed to edit, and then back to compressed would cause some generation loss, but I could be wrong?

Heres the only caveat: I'm on a mac. I have access to windows machines if need be (if thats the only method possible at least I'll know how) but would be great if there's a way to do it on the mac.

Some mpeg2 editors can edit dvd/vob without any quality loss, but you can then just do cutting, joining and syncing, no "cleaning up", frame rate conversion. Like Wombles Mpeg video wizard.

If you must do a lot of cleaning up with filters it will require reconversion and then I guess it wouldn't matter that much if you first convert to dv or similar, you can use mpeg streamclip convert your dvds to dv.

Is there any solutions for cutting, joining and syncing on the mac? Mpeg Video Wizard looks like its a Windows only app...

Look at the MacOs section in the tools list https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/macos-video-tools
There is not much there in the way of MPEG-2 editors.
