Hey all, not sure if you can help with this but here goes:

Converting from any format to avi with SUPER, finished product looks fine on the computer sucks chunks when I burn it to dvd and play on the television. For some reason the converted video from SUPER looks ok on the computer but images appear to melt? on the converted file when played on a regular dvd/tv set up. I have not had this problem with other convertors and SUPER seems to be a good choice I just don't understand why it does this. I use the same media when burning this as when burning files converted from other conversion apps and like I said no problem with other converters but SUPER is easier. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Burning the AVI file to DVD (in data mode) to play it means you've got a DivX/XViD certified player. The decoder chips in these players often have "restrictions" of what DivX formats they support. One of the common options available when encoding (which SUPER may turn on automatically) is GMC which many hardware decoder chips don't like. Check if you can manually disable this feature & try your encodes again. Also, another "feature" you might try NOT using is B-frames.

Thanks for the reply TJ. You are correct on the dvd player. I didn't realized there were restrictions past which codec you used, i.e. xvid dvix3 divx 4 yadda yadda yadda. Unfortunately, at least on my copy of SUPER I see no options for GMC or B-Frames. Is it in a submenu perhaps or somewhere else I need to look?

It could also be a problem with your DVD player. Why do people always think that the less information they provide, the better? It would have been nice to know your DVD player. For example, the Philips DVP-642 has problems with "custom matrixes" in Divx/Xvid and I believe has the same problem you are trying to describe. The fix for this player is to push the Menu button on the remote control once or twice (once works for me, but some have reported having to do it twice) while the disc is playing and that somehow fixes the color issues. Super may use a custom matrix for Divx conversion, but I don't know. I don't know how to tell if this is the case. The problem you are describing has nothing to do with GMC - that much I know.

Well first off I find your post highly insulting. From what I can tell my dvd player which is NOT a philips is not the problem. If it WERE the problem it wouldn't be able to play ANY avi files from ANY converter...there is no reason why one conversion tool would make file images appear to melt when another conversion tool given the same exact file does not. What I really wish is that if you want to make snide remarks...don't reply. Thanks anyway.

  6. You made several assumptions in your last reply, Asking for more info is not being insulting...

All players handle the exact same avi differently.
All encoders do not use the same settings as default
Therefor feeding the same source file into different encoders will produce different results, playing thos files in a player some may work and some won't.

Most likely you won't get much help after your last answer, I could be wrong.

If you don't like a answer, ignore it and move on.

    Cheers

He didn't ask for more info he acted like I was an idiot for not posting my DVD player...which as I said has nothing to do with it. Most likely, I wouldn't have gotten much help to begin with. But I also could be wrong.

  8. If your player is "DivX Ultra Certified" then the program in this thread is easy and it works OK. https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=319996&highlight=

I've used it and it didn't work right when I fed it XVids it has worked flawlessly with WMV, MOV's and Non protected DVDs.

With the DVD it even imported the chapters settings from the DVD. I've watched the output on DVD and USB hdd with a Phillips Divx Ultra Player hooked up to a HDTV via Component set to 16:9 and Progressive out. I'd have tried the upscaling if I had a free HDMI on the TV. Anyway the output from the program looks good to my eyes. The watermark is not that obtrusive. Watermark is because I'm on the 30 day trial.

Note: If you don't have a ultra Divx player you may only see the first clip input into the program.
