For the past 2-3 days I have noticed a slower connection on downloads, I thought it was something to do with the torrents I were using (and then downloading with various download managers). Anyway, it seems that is eliminated.
I should get about 110-120k download speed, and I have done multiple speed tests and it's now just over 90 or so. I haven't changed anything, or updated software etc. All clean it seems on the system. What could be causing this sudden drop? I am also noticing unsteady speeds, I mean it jumps from 30-80 all the time. I was able to maintain a speed of 10-115 easily previously, but its just so unstable now. PS I am with Pipex (uk) and not quite sure on what other info to include.
Thanks

hi,
there can be a lot of reasons and most of them you may not be able to do anything about...
i'll go thru some of them but i don't what site you go to or time of day, etc... but hopefylly soemthing will help...
and you didn't mentioned if there was anything else on the system that not quite right... many time that a important clue..... anyway...
1. time of day plays a big part on how fast your download rate is... if the traffic/the server (theres or yours) is busy... that can slow things down...
2. noise on the line could start to get excessive... but not sure if that the case here..
3. as far as your download rate fluxuates... that could be cause the bandwidth of the site your downloading from and how busy they get from time to time...
4. have you check for any malware? have you done your antivirus and antispyware scans.. malware can slow things down...
5. programs that startup at windows boot... too many of those always slows things down a little bit a good idea do disable some of those startups...
6. have you recently installed any programs or update patches, etc... sometime maybe because of a poor install, things slow down...
those are a few of the things that can effect your transfer rate...
