I have Windows xp and every time I plug my memory stick into the USB port, I get this message
"This device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi Speed USB 2 port. For a list of available ports, click here"
I clicked "here" and got the following:
"There are no Hi Speed USB host controllers installed on this computer. The USB Mass Storage Device will function at reduced speed. You must add a Hi Speed USB host controller to this computer to obtain maximum performance."
My question is this: Is there any way to get high speed USB transfer by just installing some kind of software? I don't want to have to buy and install any hardware. When I use this computer to transfer a 100 mb file to the USB memory stick, it takes about 4 minutes to transfer the file. I repeated the same experiment with another computer and it took only about 20 seconds to transfer the 100mb file. That is about 10 times faster. I would certainly like to get that kind of USB transfer speed on this computer if there is a simple way to do it.

I used to have 1.8 GHz HP Pavilion from about 2003 or 2004 that had USB 1. In order to get USB 2 I had to buy a card and put it in one of the expansion slots.
You will have to buy a USB 2 card for your PC to put in one of your expansion slots, assuming you have slots available. Since you haven't added any details about your computer to your profile, I am just guessing as to whether or not your PC can even support this. Since you say you are running Windows XP, I feel I can safely assume you don't have a Commodore 64.
Your existing/old USB ports on your PC will still be USB 1 and you will have to use the USB ports on the new card in order to get the higher speeds.
The cards are not that expensive and should be plug 'n ' play, or they will probably come with a disk if you need it.
