During a recent visit home I converted some programming from VHS to DVD on the home VHS/DVD recorder, but discovered they would not play in my own DVD player once I returned. Seems I didn't finalize the discs properly in the DVD recorder. I've tried using different software and available tools, but can't seem to be able to save the data on the discs in a way to burn the programming again. Should I give up and try it again on the next visit home or is there a simple way to solve my problem? Any help is appreciated.

What brand (And model, if you know it.) was the DVD recorder? And what programs have you tried to extract the video with? The first ones that come to mind are DVD Decrypter and ISOBuster. One of our members familiar with that brand of recorder may be able to give you some better advice.

    And welcome to our forums.

Thanks for getting back so fast. To be totally honest I'm unsure of the brand name since it was gift to my Mom about a year or so ago. I do recall it wasn't one the "best" recorders you hear of. I want to say Symphonic, but not 100% on that. I've tried ISO Buster, but haven't had any luck there. I've managed to save what's on the disc as ISO, CUE, and BIN files, but I've never been able to burn from those images and produce anything resembling a video. Every forum I've read mentions NERO, but I have ROXIO EMC 7.5. I'm going to try DVD Decrypter and see if confirms I still have functioning brain or I should begin to worry! Thanks again for getting back so quick and the welcome!

I don't think Nero or Roxio will help you with that one.

But take a look in our DVD Recorders forum and try a forum search for 'finalize'. You may have to refine your search terms a little, but you should find quite a few threads on the subject. I know there have been some other tools mentioned that may do a better job than the two I listed.
