I was capturing from TV with WinDVR in MPEG-2 and Pinnacle PCTV Pro TV Tuner and my computer suddently rebooted so the capturing was interuppted abnormal. I checked the recorded file and it was about 11GB but the I can access only the 5.3GB of that file with the VirtualDub Mod, DGIndex or the TMPeg. I made a copy of that file in another location of my hard disk and no problem so the file on the hard disk doesnot have any problem. I tried to find a program that repairs Mpeg-2 and I found about 8-10 different apps but they didnt help. They stopped at the same position (~50%) of the file. Then I tried with a file splitter to split the file in smaller parts to check if I could open the last parts of the file. The parts that were created before the position of 50% opened OK with any program. But the parts beyond 50% of the file didn't seem to be accessible by Virtual Dub Mod or DGindex.

Does anyone know if it's possible to fix such a file or how to fix interrupted recordings of WinDVR?

If it helps I can upload a small part of the file (500kb) that is not accessible and another part that is accessible.

    Thanks

I use VideoRedo Plus for editing MPG files. It should be able to read parts that are OK and edit out parts that aren't.

It will join two MPGs together but it isn't free.

Easy to use and well configured for a newbie like me.

Practically ... nothing you can do .

But if you must upload a portion of the file , it should contain the area where the problem lies ... not after the event .

What format is your hard drive in ?
Confirm directx version , and that it shows no major issue's

Have you updated motherboard driver's and vga driver's .

Is the pc on a powerboard which include's spike protection (basic level protection) .

  6. Hi,
The test2.mpg file is full with zeros. It's not corrupted - it's empty. Try opening yor big file with some hex viewer and see where the zeros start.

what probably happened is the capturing app pre-allogated space for the capture (much in the same way most torrent client do) and as it captured the video/audio it replaced the null data with the data from the stream.

the other poster's discovery that the second half of your file is full of zeros supports my theory, and if i'm right, then there's nothing to recover, you only recorded up to the point where the file plays.

Yes, I agree that there is nothing that I can recover.
The only problem is that the program had recorded more than what I have now but I lost it.
The video I have now is about 40min but when the sudden shut down happened I have already recorded about 80min and for some reason that part where replaced with zeros! Maybe it has to do with the sudden break of the hard drive operation.
Anyway cause I'm recording a lot from TV now I buyied an UPS to avoid such problems in the future.
