I just bought and installed an ASUS DRW-11608P3S DVD writer. The firmware is the latest and the bios sees it correctly. Windows explorer reports it as a DVD-RAM drive but its not. When I insert a blank Sony DVD+R disk, Windows reports "illegal function and shows it as a CD-r.
Any ideas???

DVD-RAM drive in windows explorer ... correct
Insert dvd , shown as cd in windows explorer ... correct
Issue with "upon" insert .
Check ide cable for no fouling with pin's or bad cable .
Was drive tested with factory firmware prior to firmware update ?
Was this called by any program , and not just a system event warning ?
