I want to reencode an elementary video stream, m2v, using CCE.
I examined the video in DGIndex with Forced Film off, and the video type shows FILM (no percentage) @ 29.970.
So I figured I should use Forced Film.

But the frame type in DGIndex switches between progressive and interlaced, very fast.
Also with Forced Film off the field order shows Bottom, but with Forced Film on it is blank.
    Frame struct shows Frame.

What kind of video is this, progressive or interlaced?
Do I need to de-interlace this before encoding?

  2. Hi-

What kind of video is this, progressive or interlaced?

It's progressive, encoded at 23.976fps, with pulldown.

Do I need to de-interlace this before encoding?

Use Force Film on it. Don't IVTC or Deinterlace. Encode for Progressive 23.976fps. Apply pulldown either during the encode or afterwards.

To confirm, after making the D2V, open it in Notepad and at the bottom it'll give you the film percentage. If, as you say, it shows only film when running the Preview, then it should be 100% FILM (or very close to it).

    d2v file shows 99.96% FILM.

I also examined it in Bitrate Viewer and it shows:

    Scan Type: Alternate
    Frame Type: Interlaced

So for encoding I do Force Film, encode, apply pulldown.

Do I choose Zigzag or Alternate for Block Scan Order in CCE?
Do I check or uncheck the Progressive Frame flag in CCE?

  4. Bitrate Viewer shows that information for the first frame. If you were to open a later vob, it should say Zigzag and Progressive.

Set up CCE for Zigzag scan order and check the Progressive box.

    And read your manual.
