    is there a firmware of some sort or any software that could possibly make your cd player play all types of media (wav, mp3, wma, etc........)

    Not if doesn't do that out of the box.

    These days they are so inexpensive why mod a cd only player? You can get a cd/mp3 player for $30USD or so if you look in the right spots. Probably less at discount stores and if you check out the no-name knock off stuff.
