  1. Hello, my cyber-friends!

Apparently, this hasn't been discussed here, so I would like to share my experience with you.

In the near past, when it came to MPEG cutting, there have been some comments about some softwares and their lack of visualization for MPEG screens on a timeline or the lack of precise timing or how they re-encoded the resulting MPEG's or even how user unfriendly they were. While some of these softwares were better equipped for some of these features, they usually lacked or were not as robust for the rest of features.

Enter AVS Video Remaker 2.2 from Online Media Technologies Ltd. in the UK. In my opinon, this is the best MPEG cutter as of now (early 2007). This software has a timeline by which you play the original video, you then stop it with a line and your mouse, and the exact screen at where the movie stops is showed on top of the timeline. If you are not satisfied with this, you can move the line sideways until you find the precise screen you want to stop at. Additionally, you can input the exact time you want your section to start and the exact time you want this section to end, using micro-seconds exactness as in the form 00:00:00:00. Finally, and this is what makes this software outstanding, the resulting MPEG's are not re-encoded at all.

In closing, I hope this information proves to be useful to any of you.

    Cheers,

    C Albert "Disco Mak"

Not too different from the free and awesome Mpeg2Cut2 . And Videoredo is top of the foodchain in mpeg cutting in the commercial software world. I'm not dissing the product you mentioned, it's probably good, but for $30 it should stand out in some fashion.

  3. Hello, Soopafresh!

I am not familiar with Mpeg2Cut2. Does the resulting Mpeg2Cut2 MPEG's are not re-encoded? As from VideoRedo, I think that the resulting VideoRedo MPEG's are re-encoded.

Yes, I agree that $30.00 for AVS Video Remaker is a bit expensive, but the company has an offer by which anyone can register with them and for less amont you can download this software and multiple others from them. I think I am going this route.

One more thing. When I talk about AVS Video Remaker as compared to the others, I am talking about non-professional softwares. I am sure that Vegas and others are better.

  4. Addendum:

VideoRedo has a lacking functionaly: frame-by-frame editing. However, VideoRedo Plus does this. So, in essence, Soopafresh has a point but definitely Video Redo Plus is better.

You know, I might even switch to VideoRedo Plus if I don't find it too expensive.

Womble MPEG2VCR has all these features, and does not reencode frivolously.

  6. Hello again, AlanHK!

Yes, Womble is also great. However, it is much more expensive than AVS. I haven't checked the price for VideoRedo Plus yet.

    Take care,
