  1. hi all,
i have a music dvd that i am wanting to cut up into smaller files and convert them to MPG, i have tried using Tempenc but that only works with the first.VOB, the others are not recognised. I can convert the the .VOB with programs to a VCD then put into Tempenc, but then Tempenc wants to recode it to a VCD again.

Is there any program that can cut up VOB files and convert them to MPG.

    Thanx

Any of VOB2MPEG or VOBedit or PGCedit or PGCdemux.

also another way is to rip to one single vob the first time and then go from there. In dvd decrypter you can select one file splitting instead of by chapter or whatever. However dvd decrypter isn't updated anymore - I'm not sure if any of the newer rippers let you rip to a single vob like dvd decrypter does. Just an fyi.

But alanhk has provided the best options.

NB: the MPEGS you get by extracting from VOBs will be (most likely) MPEG2.

If you want to make VCDs, you'll need to transcode these to MPEG1. That may be what Tmpgenc is doing.

Or you might make SVCDs, which use MPEG2, and preserve the quality (shorter playing time though).

a note about svcds - they have a much less widespread player support. Vcd is much more supported o settop dvd players than svcd. Some will but not all of them by a long shot. So if you want to use an older mode try vcd - it will have a better compatilbility rate.
