I use NERO Recode to convert files for playback on an ipod.
But, I have 2 questions that I can't find an answer to, and I hope that this forum can help.
1: What is the difference between using "ipod video" and the "ipod video AVC" setting?
The only differences I can see is the the former produces a video with a much higher bitrate then the former. Plus the former has a "quick time complient" check box while the latter don't.
2: Does the imput file have to be in the AVI format, or can other formats be used?
I reason I ask is that when I try to use VCD MPEG-1 files I get either no burn error message, or that I don't have permission to do message.
Thanks for any insight.

1. avc/h264 video? and the first is just mpeg4 sp? but I'm not sure.
2. No, it supports many formats "Support for transcoding video files to Nero Digital has been added (AVI, AVS, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, MOV, VOB, WMV) ."
Maybe a corrupt mpg? how did you rip the vcd mpeg1 file? if just a renamed .dat to .mpg it can cause problems try then instead vcdgear it to a mpg. -
Thanks for the reply, but, I still don't know which profile to use in making an iPod video with
NERO Recode 2.03.08
The reason behind this is that in readinga third party "how-to" instructions on converting videos to iPod they state that to make your video iPod readable you have to do the following:
Select the "Advanced" branch and make sure that the "Simple profile
(QuickTime compatibility" box is ticked.)
profile.
So, you can see the problem, if I follow the "how-to" guide I have to choose the former.
However, if the latter is the better profile, it countermined the guide.
And that takes me back to the question.
Which Profile is the best one to use?
And, as a side question, since the same profiles exist for PSP videos (along with the
QuickTime compatibility" command) which of these profiles are better to use for those videos? Or should the QuickTime compatibility" command even be used?
BTW your reply that Recode "supports many formats" just don't seem to work with me. I get everything from a "fail to burn" to an all out computer freeze! And it don't seem to matter which application (Nero/Dazzle/Shareware) I use to convert to MPEG-1. If the file is not in Cinepack AVI then Recode just won't work -
