Hi,
I twice successfully used Virtualdubmod to convert a dual audio ogm file to a single audio avi file with separate sub file, following this tutorial from this website
"How to convert matroska MKV to AVI or OGM to AVI".
However my third, and every subsequent, attempt failed, both at converting the ogg audio file to mp3, and at creating the avi file.
Even when I used OGMDemuxer.exe to separate the files and an external encoder to convert the ogg audio to mp3, I still could not get Virtualdubmod to join the audio and video files - even though I used this method on one of the two occasions that worked.
I tried again and again, after restarting the computer, re-installing Virtualdubmod and dling the latest build.
I am pulling my hair out here. I cannot understand how or why Virtualdubmod won't work anymore when It did the first two times.
If no one can help me with Virtualdubmod, then can someone suggest an alternate tool for joining mp3 and avi to a single file? I can still use OGMDemuxer to separate the files - I just need to be able to recombine them.
Thanks very much for any help anyone can offer.
ps. Virtualdubmod won't work with MKV files either. In fact, all it is good for now is demuxing srt/sub files.

Does VDM give you an error? Generally with OGM video, the video is Xvid format, so you just need to take out the audio and convert that. I usually save out the audio as a WAV with full processing and just convert that. Then I add the audio back in, usually as a MP3 and save it and the video to a new file with Direct stream copy for both. But OGM video can have a lot of different file types within the OGM container and that may complicate things.
I also have OGG DirectShow Filter / OggDS / OGM Codec, but I'm not sure that VDM needs that just to read the format. -
Hi, thanks for your interest.
No, I do not get any error messages - I got nothing, in fact. after clicking ok on the Save WAV dialog nothing happened, and after doing the same for saving the avi nothing happened, as well as for saving the joined file after adding the avi and compressed audio manually.
What apparently happened is that I saved the avi once in "fully compressed mode" by accident and got a 4+ gb file before aborting it. I didn't realize what had happened until I made the same mistake again today. After that mistake Virtualdubmod wouldn't work at all even after restarting several times.
I also discovered that my ogg --> mp3 conversions weren't working either - the file existed, but had no audio. So I dled dBpowerAMP's converter which gave me working converted mp3's. after this Virtualdubmod has been working beautifully - no problems at all. I'm thinking the engine for converting the ogg to mp3 was corrupted somehow. I know nothing about these things, so I'm just guessing.
I also tried AVI-Mux_GUI per another tutorial here which recognised the audio file as cbr even though there was no audio to it. Haven't tried it since I got Virtualdubmod working though.
incidentally, AVI-Mux_GUI claims that vbr mp3's are preferable, but Virtualdubmod insists cbr's are - what's the story there? -
well after ten successful conversions it has happened again. This time after VDM found an error (which it supposedly corrected) in the video file, it stilled failed to convert the audio file in the same way as described above, as well as the video file. Would not work even after restart of computer, for any ogm file I tried to add (wouldn't even allow drag&drop - had to add via "open video"). As well it would not join the video and converted audio files after I demuxed them with OGMDemuxer.
In short everything all over again.
I simply do not have any idea what can be causing this problem. the last time it started working again was after the computer was off for about 6 or 7 hours while I slept, and after I had installed the dBpowerAMP converter. I hope I don't have to do that again.
PLease, does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
