Ive been reading a while on this board, as I am in need of a new DVD Rec w/ Hard drive, as my Phillips has quit on me... I am now left with a huge amount of video in the phillips HD that I am afraid that I'm not gonna be able to save it.
Regardless, I am looking at a budget of no more then 300.
I wanted to know if there are any users with Polariod recorders, and if they are ok recorders.
Specifically this one:

As well as this LiteOn, I've read about jitter issues and green tint with LiteOn but do these things still occur with newer models? Specifically this one:

ANy help is greatly appreciated.

You might want to search the net to see if you can pull out the phillips harddrive and hook it up to a pc. Who knows you might be able to salvage it if the harddrive isn't fried. Since you can't use the unit anyway you won't lose anything by trying.
I have a liteon 1107 hc1. I like it quite a bit. It doesn't have a harddrive but it works very well. No stereo rf tuner though - for that I have to use a stereo vcr as the tuner for special stuff I want in stereo - but if I really want it in stereo I'll usually cap it on my pc. I use the liteon for stuff when I'm recording something already on the pc or I want a quick record without setting the pc - as I usually watch shows on tv and not on my pc (my pc is really just a recording unit and I don't watch tv on it much if at all).
But the liteon has relatively intuitive controls and good response - though my particular model has an interesting audio delay. Whenever I pause a dvd on it the picture pauses immediately but the sound goes on for a second so - odd.....Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I own both a Liteon 5006 and a Polaroid 2001-G. The Polaroid is the ONLY one I use for recording, as captures from the Liteon play back too bright on anything other than the Liteon.
I also own a Canopus ADVC which I use for most serious video conversions. For a Real-time encoder, the Polaroid is not too bad. -
Here's a huge thread on the Polaroid recorder:

Hmm thanks for the replies. After reading about the Polaroid I am very interested in that, however the 90 day warranty scares me.
It scares me when a company is not willing to do atleast a year of backing their product.Jess -
Another Polaroid thread:

Long but read it. A lot of interesting information. -
Shorter warranties are a way to cut long-term costs, and that is going to be common for Wal-Mart products. I would suggest the Polaroid is worth buying and trying. Odds are you'll want to keep it. If not, remember Wal-Mart has a 90-day return policy.

I go to school at night, so I pretty much got my days filled so I cant get a PAYING job cause believe you me taking care of toddlers (which Ive been doing since I was 14) is a job in iteself. So the safety of knowing I can return the item to Costco is a hard thing to pass up. If only they sold the Polaroid.
Had I not purchased my Phillips there now that its died on me, will rec but not rec to DVD. It rec to HD and I can watch it, but it wont burn anymore I would not be able to get another.Jess -
Wanted to update for those who helped me here with questions and such that I had.
Well I did not buy a rec until yesterday and it was completley unplanned. I went into a pawn shop and there stood Poloroids for 200, I thought for that price I can get it new. So I went on through, and on the other end of the Pawn shop they had one for 60 bucks. I wondered why it was less, but I bought it. I'd still have money saved for another if need be so I went ahead and did got it.
So far it seems like a bad remote which I read there was problems with the remote. I bought another LED and plan to try and replace the led. Wish me luck.
So far the unit recs ok, great picture quality. I have not yet rec a DVD but I plan to do that later tonight or tomorrow. I got a week to take it back if I find something wrong with it.Jess
