Hi, does anyone know if it's possible to pull the files from the Hard Drive in the Polariod DRM2001G unit into an editing program such as Premier Pro CS3 ? I have a IDE to USB cable, it recognizes the drive but the file structure is such that Vista will not show a directory.... I was hoping to use this unit as a record deck for a multi camera setup and digital switcher for recording local High School Football and Basketball, with the ability to extrat files for post-production editing in Premiere before placing on our News site.....
Do I need a special Driver or prog. to read the file structure of the HD ?
Thanks for your help

try booting your computer with a linux live cd and check the hard drive using that, it's possibly a linux format. if not, can't you burn the files to dvd and get the mpeg-2 files that way?

Haven't tried with a Linux machine yet, Need to get a Linux set-up at some point.....
As far as buring to DVD and then pulling MPEG-2, I could but I was looking for something a little more direct in saving some time, I know I can use an ARCHOS with DVR-Dock (Used to have one) and that would import directly to Premiere Pro, Money is a little tight at present but I was trying to make do with items I currently had, to work a few appointments for upcoming clients and then as more $$$ comes in eventually upgrade to an real production rig such as the REMO from Rushworks or a Tricaster from Newtek...... -
unless this is going out live, a switcher is not the best way to go. it's way too easy to capture the video from a camera with a non optimal picture stream. i have access to a tricaster from a local access channel and have used it, but always had to also capture all the tapes to get all versions of the video to do the editing for dvd versions. i gave up using it except for running it for the station during live hockey games.
if you need inexpensive multicam editing software for DVavi, i would recommend editstudio.--

OK, Thasnk You for your input aedipuss, the problem I am running into is that One Client that is looking to kick this off for me, is a local Event Venue that hosts Renunions, Receptions, etc.... They would like to have a set-up where they use Sony PTZ cameras (3) of them that have only video out, pull audio off of the house sound board and a Boom mic or two for ambient sound.... So the switcher would take the feed from each camera, and I still need a record source, as they do not want to invest in Cameras with independent storage, I have argued that point several times, as I already can pull the camera footage in post and edit with Premiere Pro CS3, so, I guess Each of the PTZ cameras need a DVR on their feed before going to the switcher and then out to the final DVR, that way I'll have footage from each cam as needed to repair in post anything that may have been missed or key-switched to wrong.....any suggestions on a set-up that may be cost effective?

crap not making it easy on you are they. if they're paying the freight, just do it their way with the one recorder and take their money. hopefully it brings more jobs allowing the acquiring of more equipment in the future, but i wouldn't spend any of your own before you see some more job offers on the table. it would suck to lose money on a one off. what i would consider is using their equipment, but also adding any cams you already own as backup if they will allow it. put them on tripods, unattended, in unobtrusive spots as wide angel set shots, and just change tapes as needed.

Could you suggest a decent configuration that would be portable to be able to cover local sports as well as the occassional Wedding Event, that I could present to them, I am printing off this thread so they may see for themselves what others in the field thing of the arrangement...

i like the tricaster/monitor/hard drive recording unit for sports and it would work for other live events like weddings/conferences. we use it with 3 canon gl-2's. the tricaster outfit and cameras fit into one large aluminum transport case. decent tripods, mics, cables, and operators with communication equipment for all the crew so the editor can give instructions and you're set.
biggest drawback of the tricaster is it requires an editor who knows what's going to happen almost before it does. live switching between cams is harder than it looks, even with only 3 cams, to make it enjoyable for the audience.--
