I am a video/audio newbie and was trying to convert an .mpg to iPod format to load my first video to my video iPod. A video savvy friend at work said to try SUPER (I downloaded version 2007 build 21) to convert my first .mpg. I ran the .mpg through SUPER, but when it was done it seems that no .MPG on my PC will now play its sound in my Windows Media Player. Obviously this wasn't a problem before I used SUPER. I was using Windows Media Player 10, upgrading to 11 didn't reset the audio. Any other video format plays the sound through WMP ok, including .avi, .wmv, .mpeg videos. Only .mpg files won't play the sound. All of my .mpg's will play in iTunes with the sound.

On the advice of another IT techy at work, I used GSpot to check my .mpg files. It showed the audio and video codecs are present on my PC to play these files so there are no further codecs to download. Did SUPER just overlay some audio control file Windows Media Player needs to play .mpg sound?

Can you suggest something that will reset my audio codec so my .mpg's will play in Windows Media Player 11 again? Thanks.

It's apparently a known issue with the current version of SUPER. http://www.w3exchange.com/t616-2-v2007b21-known-issues-under-repair.html

They also have this post stickied in their forum: http://www.w3exchange.com/t674-3-a-bug-in-wmp-91011.html . I'm not sure if it's supposed to help in this case, or not, but it was posted after the issue started appearing.

I hadn't gotten around to installing the latest version for a while, but after seeing the possible issues list, I'll wait at least for the patched version (though there's no estimated date for the release).

Ai Haibara thank you so much, the procedure in your second link fixed my Windows Media Player problem. I'll wait for SUPER's next release/patch before using it again, if ever, since for those interested in converting video files to Ipod's MPEG-4 format I was able to use MPEG Streamclip (www.squared5.com) successfully and more easily without any side effects like SUPER caused.

Soopafresh, thanks for your response. Perhaps it's moot now, but just for the record my mpg files in question are showing "MPEG-1 Layer2" as the audio codec according to GSpot. I don't know any other way to answer your question.
