I'm converting flash video files to XVID Avi format; (to eventually convert to mpeg 2, then to author, and burn to dvd).

I used SUPER to accomplish this..I set SUPER to use "Memcoder"; NO change in the VideoScale Size. aspect = 4:3, Frame/sec=29.97, the bitrate =1920 kbps, Audio at 44100, 2 channels, 128 kbps. AC3 format.

Super does great, quick work at conversion.

I then previewed the videos, before doing anything else, on my computer's small screen. The videos were really ok.. nothing wrong with them. In fact; they looked really GOOD.

Then, I ran each video through TmpEnc (converting the videos into Mpeg 2 format); THEN I used TmpEnc DVD Author to Author the DVD, then BURN it to dvd.

BUT....when I played the DVD, the general movement of the video was fine; however.. frankly.. (These are videos of Lectures.. just a guy talking.) the movement of his face, talking was like a poor Mpeg 1 format video.. it was FINE looking at it on a SMALL screen..BUT terrible when looking at it on a regular tv set.. like the video has been amplified, or blown up just a shade too much.

Why is this happening? How can I IMPROVE the videos, so that they will look as good as they did on the computer screen? Could it possibly the settings that I used in Super ? If So, what settings might be better to use ?

Thanks Much for your help ~

There isn't much you can do, really. Flash videos are generally encoded (even the 'good quality' material) at a low bitrate and frame size. Do one or more conversions in creating a DVD, which will also scale the video size up, and the problems will become even more noticable.

I don't have any flash files handy to test this, but you seem to be adding an extra conversion step. Have you tried to go from flash to MPEG-2 in SUPER? I suspect part of the problem you are seeing is from resizing the video frames, possibly twice, which will give you a big hit on the quality. In SUPER, that's the 'Video Scale Size. Try setting it at your DVD frame size. I would try direct to MPEG-2 with AC3 48Khz audio or at least a less lossy format than Xvid like HuffyUV.

Ok.. thanks for the tips, ya'll. I'll try to convert the flash files again with SUPER, directly to mpeg 2 format (352x480) and then see what happens.. if it doesn't really turn out right again...then, I'll try HuffyUV, to convert to Avi.. see what happens..

    Thanks!
